John has been with the Stevenson Fencing Program since 2016, where he became an assistant coach specializing in the teachings of the epee sword. In the 2024-25 season, John will be starting his second year as the Head Coach for the Patriots. As part of the Illinois Fencers Club, Lartz has participated in several competitions currently ranked #5 in the epee category as a veteran (60-69). Most recently, John has earned a gold medal at the Veteran World Championships with his team in 2017. In that same year he earned a bronze medal at the April North American Cup, finished 19th at the USA Fencing National Championships and 20th at the Veteran World Championships in the 60-69 age group. We are thrilled to have John’s expertise as he works with our male and female fencing athletes. When John is not coaching, he practices law, where he is an expert in real estate taxation, government and operational solutions.
