Joe Gibson

Stevenson Athletics is proud to announce Joe Gibson as the new head coach for boys swimming and diving. Since 2021, Joe has been a key member of the Boys’ Water Polo program and brings extensive experience in designing swim workouts that emphasize technique, endurance, and speed. His keen eye for stroke mechanics allows him to closely monitor athlete development and tailor training plans to individual needs. Joe is also highly proficient in managing practice schedules, setting clear expectations, and fostering strong communication with both athletes and staff.
Joe began his swim coaching career in 2021 as an assistant for both the boys and girls teams at Evanston, where he quickly established a team culture grounded in positivity, discipline, and ongoing growth. In 2022, he joined New Trier High School as the assistant girls’ swim and dive coach, and in 2024, he continued to build his coaching résumé as the assistant boys’ swim and dive coach at Vernon Hills High School.
As a college freshman, Joe competed for University of Illinois-Chicago, swimming in the following events: 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard IM, 400-yard IM, and the 400-yard freestyle relay, achieving personal bests during the 2017 season. He later transferred to Seton Hall for his junior and senior years, where he earned All-Big East Team honors in both 2019 and 2020. At the 2020 Big East Championships, he was part of the first-place 200-yard freestyle relay team, finished second in the 800-yard freestyle, and placed third in the 200-yard butterfly. A standout student-athlete, Gibson was also named to the All-Academic Team in 2020.
