Andy Farrissey, a 1977 SHS graduate, has served as Head Boys Track and Field coach at SHS since 1997, compiling a dual meet record of 218-56-1 through the 2022 season. Farrissey has guided the Patriots to NSC Conference Championships in 2018,19,21, and 22. The Patriots have also won Lake County Championships in 2001,02,03,17. The Patriots have also had State Meet qualifiers for 26 straight years with 18 state place finishers along with 2 state champs ( Ian Cronin 2001 and Jared Borowsky 2018)
While attending SHS, Farrissey was a letter winner in four sports: Baseball,Basketball,Football, and Track. He attended North Park University and was a member of the Vikings two time NCAA Division III basketball Championship teams in 1979 and 1980. He was also a 3 year letter winner in baseball.
After college, Farrissey was on the football coaching staff at Deerfield HS for 9 seasons. During his tenure the Warriors went 84-18 and had two IHSA runner-up finishes. He then went to the University of Notre Dame to serve as a graduate assistant on Lou Holtz's staff. The Fighting Irish made the Orange Bowl (1991) Sugar Bowl (1992) and Cotton Bowl (1993) during his years in South Bend.
In 1995, Farrissey returned to his High School alma mater as a Physical Education teacher. In addition to leading the track program, he spent 15 years as an assistant football coach (1995-2009) helping those teams compile a record of 126-42 with a state runner-up finish in 2002. He also was an assistant Wrestling coach (2006-08) as well as the Head Girls Track coach (1997-99) compiling a dual meet record of 24-8 with one conference championship and 13 state place finishers. Farrissey is also a proud member of the Stevenson and Lake County Hall of Fame.
