Athletic Hall of Fame: Class of 2025

The Stevenson athletic community is extremely humbled by the accomplishments of the Class of 2025. We are eager to have these athletes within the Hall of Fame, and believe they embody and represent what it means to be a Stevenson Patriot. 

2004 Girls Gymnastics Team

The 2004 gymnastics team achieved an undefeated 12-0 season, culminating in Lake County, NSC, Regional, Sectional, and IHSA State Championships, scoring a remarkable 152.77 points. Key senior gymnasts Lindsay Borkan and Michelle McGrady were instrumental in this success, with Borkan earning individual state titles in the all-around and uneven bars, and McGrady securing a state championship on the balance beam. This dominant team featured a roster of talented athletes and was led by coaches Mike Farina, Judy Harwood, Lenard Issacs, and Debbie Romer.

Amanda Kaufman-Moons

Amanda epitomizes Stevenson's athletic ideal, showcasing exceptional dedication and teamwork throughout her high school and collegiate gymnastics career, culminating in a four-year scholarship to the University of Illinois. After graduating, she transitioned her passion into coaching, first at the Palatine Park District and now as the owner of Ultimate Gymnastics in Gurnee. Through her various roles, Amanda has consistently inspired young athletes and fostered a spirit of excellence.

Brad Saar

Brad Saar was a highly decorated linebacker, earning All-Conference and All-State honors in 1980 before contributing to Penn State's 1982 National Championship as a walk-on. After transferring to Ball State, he dominated, leading the team in tackles in both 1984 and 1985, accumulating 304 tackles and earning MVP and Second-Team All-MAC selections in 1985. Saar's exceptional career was later recognized with a Distinguished Alumni award from Ball State in 2021, following a brief NFL appearance with the Colts in 1987.

Christine (Smeele) Reese

Christine (Smeele) Reese had an exceptional volleyball career at Stevenson High School, earning numerous accolades from 1998 to 2000, including multiple All-Conference, All-Area, and First Team selections, while also excelling academically. She led Stevenson to significant team victories, such as two conference championships, three regional championships, and one sectional championship, accumulating impressive stats with 875 kills, 811 digs, and 263 blocks. Reese continued her volleyball journey at Iowa State, playing Division I on a scholarship and earning Academic All-Big 12 honors.

David Simon

David Simon transitioned from a collegiate volleyball scholarship to a highly successful basketball career, becoming a decorated player at Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne and later excelling in a 19-year professional career overseas. His numerous accolades include being the ABA League MVP, KBL All-Star multiple times, and KBL Scoring Champion. Currently, Simon contributes his expertise to the Chicago Sky as Director of Player Development and assists with the Boys' Basketball Program at Stevenson.

Terry Moons

Terry, a devoted member of the District 125 School Board, tirelessly championed Stevenson Athletics, ensuring student-athletes and programs received essential support. Her steadfast loyalty was evident through her consistent presence at athletic events and her commitment to thoroughly researched, fiscally responsible decisions benefiting students. She was an unparalleled advocate for Stevenson's athletes and athletic programs, significantly contributing to major investments like the aquatic center and turf stadium.
